The well-meaning Elder Cunningham in the Book of Mormon musical tries his best to connect with the Ugandan people…and tells a few small lies along the way:
“Uh, behold! The Lord said to the Mormon prophet Joseph Smith:
I shall give unto you… a FROG! And thus,
Joesph laid with the frog, and his AIDS was no more!”
I’ll show you how to make your own AIDS-curing magical frog cookies!
- Frog shaped cookie (I handcut this shape)
- Black icing
- Sky blue icing
- Royal blue icing
- Light green icing
- Bright orange icing
- Red icing
- Pastry bags, couplers, #1 and #2 tips
Outline your frog cookie with black icing – I used a #1 tip
Let this dry for a couple hours so the black color doesn’t bleed onto the lighter colors.
Now, we’re going to pipe the feet. Start with the green “cuffs” on the legs:
Finish adding the green cuff and then add the orange feet and toes.
Next, fill in the body with the sky blue icing.
While the icing is still wet, create parallel lines on the frog’s body with the royal blue icing with a #1 tip (known as the wet-on-wet technique)
Now, take a toothpick and drag it through the icing, down the lengths of the legs first:
See how it creates that neat effect? Now, do the same thing for the rest of the frog.
Don’t worry if the lines aren’t perfectly straight.
After letting the frog dry overnight, add in some eyes with the red icing.
Add them to your other BOM cookies for a fun, Broadway-worthy platter!
