Top 10 Must See New Fall Shows

One of my favorite things about fall is all the fabulous TV! My favorite shows are returning and there is a slew of new shows to check out. As a television addict, I make a list of all of the new shows that are worthy of a look. It is always a gamble too – you never know what will get picked up for another season! It’s not fun when you’ve invested in a show that gets dropped (*sniff* Pan Am *sniff*).

Since many of you are big TV geeks like me, I’d thought I would share my thoughts on some of the most promising TV shows this season! Check out these trailers and find a new show to watch (you know, instead of spending time with your family or doing the laundry…)

The New Normal

Tuesdays at 9:30pm, NBC

I was super excited about this show. I think Ryan Murphy is awesome and Andrew Rannells is adorable (all things lead back to the Book of Mormon!). It premiered Monday night and I cautiously liked it. The fast pace and camera work reminded me of Glee, but it seemed like the comedic timing was a bit off. Like, I could recognize when a joke was funny, but the pace was so quick that you couldn’t enjoy each joke for what it was. Still, it seems like a great cast and I’m definitely going to stick with it.

Partners

Mondays at 8:30pm, CBS

This one has potential. I’m digging the dynamic between the members of the cast, which makes up for some of the mediocre jokes. Plus, the sweet friend proposal in the trailer? Love it. I don’t think this will be my favorite of the season, but I curious to see it (even though it feels like I’ve seen the first episode in the trailer!).

Ben and Kate

Tuesdays at 8:30pm, FOX

I’m quite excited about this one. The trailer is the funniest one I’ve seen and it seems like a really sweet, family show. I could see Nat Faxon’s character getting annoying goofy down the line, but I’m really looking forward to this one!

Do No Harm

Sundays at 10pm, NBC

This one barely made my list. I’m not sure what to think of this Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde remake; the trailer doesn’t give you much to go on (see the second one here). Maybe that’s why I want to see more? I’m intrigued, so I’ll give it a shot.

666 Park Avenue

Sundays at 10pm, ABC

Can I be honest? I had already decided to watch this one before I saw the trailer or read anything about it. I saw the commercial, screamed “John Locke!” and it was over. Add Vanessa Williams and even if the show was about mud wrestling squirrels, I would totally watch it. Actually, I would watch a show about mud wrestling squirrels. Anyway, the premise seems a wee bit silly, but I like the delicious creepy factor. Hoping this one doesn’t crash and burn into supernatural drivel.

Nashville

Wednesdays at 10pm, ABC

This is the one show that I think I should watch. I love my homegirl Connie Britton – she was amazing in American Horror Story last season, and many you probably remember her from Friday Night Lights. The show seems well-done with a nice cast and a good script…but the subject matter doesn’t interest me much. What can I say – I’m not much of a country girl! Still, there is enough here to give it a shot.

Revolution

Mondays at 10pm, NBC

My husband is very excited for this one. He loves post-apocolyptic/survival horror type stuff, so this is right up his alley. Don’t tell him, but I think it looks pretty good too.

Also, I’m glad to see Billy Burke getting some post-Twilight work!

My concern? It looks expensive to produce and with an “out of the box” premise, it could go the way of Terra Nova and not live past one season. I’m still going to check it out though.

Elementary

Thursdays at 10pm, CBS

I’m liking the vibe of this one. This Sherlock is like a mild form of Dr. House to me – a genius with some of the snark, less of the mean. Plus, Lucy Liu is great and I like the male/female buddy chemistry. It looks promising.

The Mindy Project

Tuesdays at 9:30pm, FOX

This show is getting a fair amount of attention, but I’m skeptical. Am I the only one who doesn’t worship Mindy Kaling? I get it, she’s funny and all, but I don’t think she is any funnier than some of the other fabulous female comedians out there. Still, I’m going to give this show a fair chance and see what happens. Unless it totally bombs in the ratings, I expect it will get picked up for a second season.

Call the Midwife

Sundays at 8pm, PBS

One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn’t belong…

This one seems out of place, doesn’t it? With the long Downton Abbey hiatus, I need some PBS period drama in my life. This show was a smashing success in the UK, so I’m itching to see it. Plus, Judy Parfitt is in it – I loved her as Vera Donavan from Delores Claiborne.

So, what do you think? What fall show are you dying to see, returning or new? I want to know!

I’ll watch Nashville and let you know how it is…I LOVE country and Connie Britton, but cautious about the girl from Heroes…I watched her in Bring in On (one of the sequels) and was not impressed.

Haha – I’m still going to give it a shot – I do love Connie Britton :) Hayden is an ok actress, so we’ll see!

Nashville isn’t a subject that I would think to watch. But after watching the clip there may be some good music and I’m not a country fan. At 2:09 the duet sounded a lot like The Civil Wars. (Love their sound) I really liked Hayden in “Remember The Titans” when she was little.

True – it shows promise even though I’m not thrilled with the whole country music thing :)

I’m liking “The New Normal” that I’ve seen so far. The 2 dads…love them. (Yeah Book of Mormon!)

This is a great list! I’m looking forward to a lot of these shows too. I am DEFINITELY planning to watch Nashville. One of my Dish co-workers got me into Friday Night Lights ages ago and I have been her loyal subject ever since. I don’t like country music either, but she can do no wrong in my eyes. I’m pretty sad I won’t be home to watch it all season, but I’m grateful my Hopper will record it for me to enjoy the minute I get home. October 10 can’t get here soon enough for me!

Thanks, Emma! I didn’t watch Friday Night Lights, but I heard it was fantastic. I loved Connie Britton in American Horror Story – she was awesome! I’m sad that so many shows are starting in October – that is too late for me :)

Nashville tops my list, I live fairly close and have an aspiring C&W performer, my son. I am not a big fan of TV comedy so we shall see. I hope you are an EW reader, the layout of the fall shows is fantastic in this weeks issue…..
