American Horror Story Cookies

I’ve already professed my love for scary movies. It seems like there used to be more television equivalents back in the day, like the Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt. But, for some reason, they went out of fashion.

Until now.

American Horror Story is not like the campy, low-budget scary shows of old. It is stylish, sophisticated, sexy, and, of course, scary – a provocative combination. Unbeknownst to viewers during the first season, the show will introduce new story lines every year, so season 2 will introduce a whole new setting with new characters (and some returning actors). Here is a little taste (not actual footage from the show, just a making of video):

Seriously, I can’t help but adore this show. It might be my favorite show on television (!!!).

If you’re interested in watching, the new season starts TONIGHT on FX! And, since the season will start with a fresh story, no need to catch up on the first season before enjoying the second.

Onto the cookies…

I was inspired by the super creepy, but beautifully shot poster art for the show.

In terms of execution, these cookies are very simple. I hand-cut the dough and used the poster art as reference. The only tricky part for me was the tears – how to make them look thinner, wetter than typical icing. I’m sure I could have used super watered-down black icing, but instead, I chose to mix equal parts meringue powder and water, plus a dash of black food coloring and painted the cookie. The effect was perfect for me – it dried hard (not sticky), but still looks wet. Additionally, I used two slightly different shades of white to give it a little dimension. That’s it!

I feel like I’ve gotten back to my weird roots a little with these cookies. I kind of like it. I hope you do too.

wow, these are so cool. I am not a horror fan, I grew up in the creepiest house, and have a very active imagination! I may check out your fave show when I have company around!

I LOVE these cookies! I’m a super horror fan as well. (Love the show as well as The Walking Dead) I love to make creepy/scary cookies but some of my ideas gross people out. LOL I’m glad to see someone else who enjoys horror too!

Thanks so much, Tiffany! I’m definitely in the same boat…sometimes I worry that my cookies are TOO weird. But, I have to be myself…and sometimes I made weird cookies :) Glad that someone else appreciates them!

These cookies stopped me dead in my tracks (they’re scary good)! Also, due to your “affection” for the show, American Horror Story, I rented the DVD of the first season. We’ll begin watching tonight. I’ll let you know how it goes. (;
