If you’re an instagram follower (which you should be if you like to see super cute kitties and Swiss Colony beef logs), you saw this lovely picture this weekend:
It was my 5 year wedding anniversary on Saturday. We don’t really do much for our anniversary – it is during the post-holiday “blah” period, so we’re kind of over the gift-giving and sugar-gorging. But, we happen to live very close to where we tied the knot, so we try to go there, if we can. It is always quiet, so we walk in, hand-in-hand, and just enjoy the moment and think about that whirlwind of a day.
Getting ready…
Seeing one another for the first time…
We took the time for fun pictures…
And even had a dance party!
There were heartfelt words…
And silly ones too…
But, the most important thing was that there was love.
Loads of it.
And there are loads of Reese’s® goodness in these bars! (see what I did there?)
Seriously, they are exploding with chocolatey-peanut butter awesomeness. Start with a buttery, peanut butter cookie crust. Add chocolate and peanut butter chips, chopped peanuts, a big ‘ol bag of Reese’s® minis, and slather on some sweetened condensed milk. Try not to burn yourself as you shove a “straight from the oven” piece into your mouth.
- ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1½ cups peanut butter sandwich cookie crumbs (this has a very thin crust – for a thicker crust, double the butter and cookie crumbs)
- 2 cups chocolate and peanut butter chips
- 1 cup coarsely chopped peanuts
- 8 ounce bag of Reese’s minis
- 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Generously grease a 9×13 pan.
- Combine the melted butter and peanut butter sandwich cookie crumbs. Stir with a fork until combined. Press into the bottom of the greased pan.
- Add a layer of chocolate/peanut butter chips, then the peanuts, and then the Reese’s minis over the crust. Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the entire pan.
- Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool before cutting into bars (seriously, it won’t work until it’s cool!)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Wonderful post!!
Thanks, Elizabeth!! You’ll be celebrating your first anniversary before you know it
I’m a total sucker for chocolate and peanut butter together. Your magic cookie bars look addicting!
Thanks, Julia! They are totally addicting – thankfully, my husband took them into work, so they didn’t stick around the house that long
great pictures! is that william and mary college? that sounds stalkery, but i just toured it in october when we were there for a long weekend…our guide told us there is a huge wait to get married in that church, like you have to reserve it lots of years ahead. did you find that to be the case? maybe that guy’s a liar…
Yes, it is William & Mary!! I went there for college and also worked in the Wren building while I was a student (giving tours and such). What the guide told you is kind of half true – you can “hold” a month years in advance, like you call and say, “I want a date in November 2014.” So, you get on a list for that month – depending on the popularity of the month, you might be higher or lower on the list. Once your month is one year out, say in November 2013, you get a call from the director and then you can pick your actual date. When I was there, we could do 4 weddings in one Saturday, and then more on Sunday! In fact, as soon as my husband and I got engaged, I called and put my name down for January 2008 – I was first in line – January is not the most popular wedding month
Were you visiting as a tourist? I just ask because if you wanted to know more about the College, I’d be happy to answer any questions
wow, 4 weddings in one day? that’s crazy. we went to williamsburg for a long weekend, and did a food tour in merchant’s square and around the college, which also included a tour of the college. what a great space!
Oh, fun! Williamsburg is such a nice place to visit
So Beautiful!
Thanks, Hani
Congratulations on your anniversary!! Love your husband’s argyle socks!!
Thanks, Elizabeth! It was my one bridezilla request for the groomsmen to wear matching socks
They didn’t mind!
Happy Anniversary! Loved this look back at your wedding day. The photos are wonderful and I love your tradition of going back to the church and just reflecting.
Thank you so much, Paula! It is so special to me that we can go back there every year
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! What a cute and fun couple you two are – thanks for sharing your special photos (btw, stunning dress!!). Now I have to go back and take a look at your yummy recipe
.
Thanks, Patricia!! I guess the wedding photos overshadowed the magic cookie bars a little
It is such a funny story on that dress. I saw it online and knew it was the one. I called every salon in Tidewater Virginia and only one had the dress so I could try it on…in my size and the color I wanted (light gold)! It was 4 hours away, so my mom and I made the trip together. We ended up at this teeny, tiny dress shop on the Eastern Shore, tried on the dress, and they sold me the sample (which hadn’t even been tried on before) – brought it back with us that day
It was the only one I tried on!
Well then, I guess it was meant to be
. Gotta love when things fall into place like that.
Yes, indeed
What a beautiful post. I almost teared up a little.
And these bars. OMG. I would totally burn my mouth trying to eat one asap from the oven.
Thanks, Carrie
It was so fun going back through our wedding photos to share with everyone!
These bars are insane. I had to make my husband take them to work to get them out of the house!
