July Pregnancy Update

in Pregnancy Updates

To keep you guys updated on my pregnancy, I’ve decided to start monthly posts with pregnancy goodies. Why monthly? Because I think weekly might be overkill. It’s not THAT exciting! Feel free to skip if you have no interest in my gestational activities.

16 week ultrasound

Baby NoYoMoCo at 16 weeks – the only ultrasound picture I have that looks even remotely like a baby.

Progress: 24 weeks pregnant, 5 months, 2nd trimester

Weird Baby Fact: At 24 weeks, babies’ faces are almost fully formed – eyelashes and all! Except their hair is white – no pigment yet.

Size: Baby NoYoMoCo was 13 ounces at 20 weeks, but is probably more like 20-22 ounces now. You know when the doctor starts making “baby Sasquatch” jokes, you have a nice, healthy-sized baby on your hands. Yes, the doctor actually said that.

Gender: All girl! Confirmed twice by ultrasound.

Baby Movement: I’m starting to feel her all throughout the day now. Can I just tell you how amazing and weird it is at the same time? I have a tendency to go into panic mode when I don’t feel her for a while, but then she uses my bladder as a punching bag and we’re all good.

Cravings: Nothing specific – I’m just very opinionated about food these days – it either sounds amazing or disgusting! And, something that sounds wonderful one day will be inedible the next.

Estimated number of Lovenox injections left: 153 (these will continue about 6 weeks after she is born – stopping them may be my Christmas present this year!).

Sleep: Eh. Not great, but I know that it is only going to get worse!

Aches/Pains/Annoyances: You know, nothing really (other than some heartburn here and there)! I can’t complain.

Funny Story: At my 20 week scan, the tech says, “Here’s the baby’s face!” It wasn’t the cute profile picture I included in this post, but a weird skeleton picture with two large, black holes for eyes. I blurted out, “Creepy.” I don’t think she appreciated it…

Hahahaa awww I love this!

Thanks, Kayle! 🙂

So fun to read about how things are going! I slept poorly too through my most of my second pregnancy. Even though I can now sleep on my belly, my boobs (yes, I’m going here) tend to hurt during the night b/c I’ll need to nurse. I remember this leveling out at some point while nursing Q, maybe after she had been sleeping through the night for a little while. I cannot *wait* to sleep super soundly on my belly. Dream of dreams!

4 Jennifer July 29, 2013 at 10:32 am

Oh, I didn’t think of that! I definitely want to breastfeed, so I guess no stomach sleeping for me for a while! 🙁 Maybe I’ll get the hang of side sleeping by then…

5 Michelle @ MakeMeCake.Me July 29, 2013 at 12:02 pm

Yes! I do a weird version of stomach sleeping with both arms folded under my head to prop me (and my boobs) up a bit! lol. 🙂 Its still wayyy better than side or back sleeping while pregnant. Big upgrade!

6 Jennifer July 29, 2013 at 12:23 pm

I’ll remember this – I can’t wait to sleep semi-comfortably again! 🙂

Don’t feel bad! Before we got to hear the heartbeat, we referred to the baby as Schrodinger’s (we were nervous!). After our 18 week ultrasound, I lovely referred to the baby as “Skeletor”… Our first peek was a close up of the spine, yikes!

But! The baby was much more human at our 28 week ultrasound. It was yawning and touching its toes. Like you, I didn’t have many symptoms, so I had a hard time relating to what was going on. Movement was a game changer (I loved it more than I thought I would). If you haven’t already, I suggest picking and using the name. It really helped my husband and I feel more connected to the baby. It feels more like a person and less like a parasite. Though, my favourite nickname for the baby is still sex trophy. 😉

Love the update!

8 Jennifer July 29, 2013 at 10:36 am

Haha – “sex trophy”! I LOVE it 🙂

The movement has been really awesome. I think it helps my husband feel more connected to the baby too – extra reassurance that is wife is “crazy with a purpose” rather than just crazy 😉 I have another ultrasound tomorrow and I’m excited to see what she looks like now! Hopefully we’ll get another profile pic – we didn’t get one at our 20 week scan, our tech was all business!

9 Katrina July 29, 2013 at 11:13 am

Ha. My husband kept freaking out because I didn’t “feel pregnant”, so once the movement (and bump!) developed, he was able to relax (a little!).

Our tech was all business like too! I was begging her for pictures. I know I’m there for a medical reason, but come’on, she’s hoarding all the pictures. I don’t know how some people walk away with a ton of ultrasound pictures, I was lucky to get 2!

10 Jennifer July 29, 2013 at 11:21 am

Oh, that stinks! I’ve had 4 (!!!) ultrasounds so far, and they always give me TONS of pictures, even if they are things like leg bones and spines 😉

11 Sue {munchkin munchies} July 29, 2013 at 11:33 am

She already looks PERFECT! Thanks for sharing, Jennifer:) What an exciting time!

12 Jennifer July 29, 2013 at 11:36 am

Thank you, Sue! 🙂

13 Janine of sugarkissed.net July 29, 2013 at 12:10 pm

Congrats on your little Miss Sasquatch, Jennifer! Thanks for sharing all the fun details!

14 Jennifer July 29, 2013 at 12:23 pm

Thanks, Janine! 🙂

15 Carrie's Creations July 29, 2013 at 1:01 pm

Haha I have a weird skeleton face pic too. Looks like an alien! lol.

16 Jennifer July 29, 2013 at 1:14 pm

Yes, so weird!

17 The Bearfoot Baker July 29, 2013 at 1:19 pm

You are so cute! I love how far ultra sound pictures have came along. When I them done way back when, you could barley tell it was a baby.

I am so happy for you and I love the idea of a monthly update!

18 Jennifer July 29, 2013 at 1:22 pm

Thank you, Lisa! 🙂 My mom didn’t even HAVE an ultrasound…things have changed quite a bit! Now, they’re measuring their organs, checking blood flow, etc. It is crazy!

19 Laura Dembowski July 29, 2013 at 3:58 pm

It must be so exciting to see the baby progressing. Continued congratulations!

20 Jennifer July 29, 2013 at 4:01 pm

Thanks, Laura 🙂

21 susie July 29, 2013 at 4:16 pm

This pregnancy is going to fly…for us! I am so happy you are sharing with us. As an empty nester I am in this childless void. They are too young to be having their own and too old to be hanging around with me…..my OB told me I could still get preggers, so I need to be careful. YIKES!!!!!

22 Jennifer July 30, 2013 at 8:24 am

It is crawling by for me, but that is because I’m a huge worrier! 🙂 I’ll be happy when she is here and healthy!

23 NikkiK July 29, 2013 at 10:35 pm

Get a 4D picture! I think they look like molded cookie dough in them but they definitely look more baby-like. Congrats on your little punkin’!

24 Jennifer July 30, 2013 at 8:25 am

I think the ultrasounds machines at my OB’s office have this option – I was looking through the buttons while waiting for the tech to come in… 😉 I don’t know when they use them though – I’d love to have a 3D picture!

25 Melissa {Simply Sweets by Honeybee} July 30, 2013 at 7:18 am

I love hearing your pregnancy updates. I live vicariuosly through others who are having children or have children because I don’t have any of my own. With only a few years left to try I’m not sure children are in the cards for my husband & I. If it’s meant to be it will be.

I’m so happy that things are going well. I can’t imagine what it feels like to have a little person moving inside of you. It’s so crazy. I’m such a hypochondriac that every little thing would concern me. Lol!

26 Jennifer July 30, 2013 at 8:30 am

When I met my husband, I didn’t think that I wanted kids. Then, I went through a huge baby fever phase right after we got married. After that, it totally subsided and I wasn’t sure. My husband was ready a couple years ago, but I kept pushing it back. So, I definitely thought about our life both ways and I respect a couple’s choice not to have any!

I am such a HUGE worrier, so pregnancy is tough for me. I’m so thankful that she is doing well and everything seems to be perfect thus far, but sometimes she goes through quiet phases (she doesn’t move AT ALL in the morning – I think she is a late sleeper already!). This freaks me out and I worry that something is wrong. I actually have an OB appointment today and hopefully she can alleviate some of my fears! 🙂

27 Mike @ Semi Sweet July 30, 2013 at 1:36 pm

Nice update, Jennifer! You can write a book full of your funny pregnancy stories. 🙂

28 Jennifer July 30, 2013 at 4:14 pm

Thanks, Mike! 🙂

29 Reeni July 30, 2013 at 9:13 pm

Heehee so cute! I can’t wait for her to be born!!

30 Jennifer July 31, 2013 at 10:42 am

Me too, Reeni! 🙂

31 The Partiologist July 31, 2013 at 8:39 am

I’m sure you’ll have many more funny stories to share! I love the updates!

Thanks, Kim! 🙂

33 Georgia @ The Comfort of Cooking July 31, 2013 at 12:15 pm

Love these little updates, Jennifer! What an exciting time for you! Love your “creepy” remark too. Something tells me I’d say the same thing, haha! Though endearing, I mean… come on. That’s kinda freaky.

34 Jennifer July 31, 2013 at 12:27 pm

I know! It seemed like she expected me to say, “Aww, how cute!” Uh, no, sorry, not cute! 😉 I had a growth ultrasound yesterday and got a HILARIOUS photo that I can’t wait to share for my next pregnancy update!

35 Hayley @ The Domestic Rebel July 31, 2013 at 5:31 pm

I don’t mean any disrespect, but oh my gosh, babies are so weird! I think the concept is seriously mind-blowing. Like, there is a human inside of you. A human.. with white hair and eyelashes. Okay, now I’m making something natural and beautiful and sweet sound like a plot of a horror movie.

*cue deep dark scary voice* There once was a girl named Jennifer.. and there was a baby inside of her with WHITE HAIR *dun dun dunnnnnn*

Anyways, congratulations! Sorry I turned your pregnancy update into a terrible plot for a D-list horror movie.

36 Jennifer July 31, 2013 at 7:49 pm

You are totally right! 🙂 It is really weird – my husband started making chestburster jokes (from the Alien movies) when he could feel/see her moving from the outside. And, we’re having a girl, so this doesn’t apply, but it makes me think of the Sex and the City episode where Carrie tells Miranda that she has a tiny penis inside of her! And, now, the white hair reference is making me think of Village of the Damned, which was one of my favorite scary movies growing up…so, maybe she is an alien 😉

37 Paula July 31, 2013 at 8:12 pm

Very happy to see that all is progressing so well with your pregnancy. Keep the updates coming 🙂

38 Jennifer August 1, 2013 at 2:16 pm

Thank you, Paula! I was scared that no one would like these updates, since this is a baking blog and all, but I don’t think monthly is too bad and everyone has been so kind 🙂

39 ashley - baker by nature August 1, 2013 at 12:06 pm

Awwwww! Hi, baby 🙂

40 Jennifer August 1, 2013 at 2:15 pm

She says “Hi” back! 😉

41 Chung-Ah | Damn Delicious August 5, 2013 at 1:11 am

Awww so excited for you!

42 Jennifer August 5, 2013 at 8:16 am

Thank you, Chung-Ah! 🙂

43 Wendy August 5, 2013 at 10:56 am

Its always such a relief when the ultra sound shows a human baby and not a chicken or an alien! It certainly feels like, “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” when the much beloved alien is performing a Zumba routine inside you! And as far as worrying less once the baby gets here…..I guess some people aren’t worriers but in general I think worrying is part of being a MOM. The worries just change over time. 🙂 Worry, care, awe, love….they are a package deal. 🙂 Enjoy the moment. Wishing you happiness at whatever moment you are in!

44 hani/haniela's August 5, 2013 at 10:12 pm

She is perfect!

45 Jennifer August 6, 2013 at 9:21 am

I love this post and will definitely be looking forward to more! Hope the sleeping gets better 🙂

47 Jennifer August 7, 2013 at 3:00 pm

Aww, thank you, Zainab! 🙂 Sleep is an ever-changing challenge, but I’m trying to get the hang of it!
