To me, summer means lots of watermelon munching, A/C cranking, and…

True Blood enjoying!

True Blood

True Blood is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Sexy vampires, fairies, witches, warlocks, werewolves, shifters, etc. etc. etc. (and now, SPOILER ALERT!, fairy-vamps?) I’m not enamored with this season quite yet, but I can’t seem to pull myself away from the goings-on in Bon Temps.

Pomegranate Lemonade by

I thought Sookie would like to make some lemonade for her vampire pals (though, it seems like she is OVER vampires at the moment). I bet adding a little Tru Blood would make a refreshing (and satisfying!) vamp drink. But, since I bet real Tru Blood would be super icky to us humans, I substituted sparkling pomegranate juice. The result is sweet, tart, and delicious!

Sookie’s Tru Blood Pomegranate Lemonade
  • 1¾ cup white sugar
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 2¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 6 cups cold water
  • 1 bottle of Trader Joe’s Sparkling Pomegranate Juice (aka Tru Blood!)
  1. In a gallon pitcher, mix together the hot water and sugar until all sugar is dissolved. Add the lemon juice and water. Refrigerate.
  2. For each glass, fill up the glass about ¼ of the way up with the pomegranate juice. Fill up the rest of the glass with lemonade. Garnish with lemon slices, if desired.
Lemonade adapted from the Food Network.

I could murder one of these right now, I’m not gonna lie! Looks awesome.

Haha, thanks, Sarah! :)

This sounds so GOOD! I am all about new lemonade recipes this year. Can’t wait to add this one to my collection.

Recipes like this make me want to grow my own lemon tree inside this winter so I can have fresh squeezed lemonade any time I want;)

4 Jennifer July 15, 2013 at 4:38 pm

Oh yes! I’ve seen so many fabulous lemonade recipes this summer! They are saving me during this pregnancy :)

5 Elizabeth@ Food Ramblings July 15, 2013 at 2:10 pm

I don’t watch True Blood, but this lemonade looks amazing!

6 Jennifer July 15, 2013 at 4:38 pm

Thanks, Elizabeth! :)

i haven’t started watching the new season yet… there is NO WAY i could wait a week in between episodes, i would die! so i am waiting until the season is over or nearly over and then i will begin and go on a binge. can’t wait!!

8 Jennifer July 15, 2013 at 4:39 pm

That is an awesome tactic! My husband and I feel that way about Breaking Bad – I don’t know how we’re going to get through the next (half?) season with a whole week in between episodes!

I’m still a fan of True Blood, even though last season seemed lacking. So far, this season is looking promising! (Well, except for the Terry storyline; I find it a little boring.) This drink looks mighty tasty! I use TJ sparkling pomegranate juice as a mixer for vodka drinks. I bet this virgin version would be just as good. :)

10 Jennifer July 16, 2013 at 7:56 pm

Oh, I know – Terry’s storyline this season and last is so boring. I thought he was a goner last season – it seems like it might be this one instead!

Just beautiful, Jennifer! Your Tru Blood Pomegranate Lemonade is making my “inner goth” heart sing!

12 Jennifer July 16, 2013 at 7:54 pm

Thanks, Stacy!

well even on vacation I had to peek, since I have a Sookie at home! My sweet pup was named after the kooky chef (Melissa McCarthy) on Gilmore Girls. But I have heard this is worth watching. I need a stormy summer day!

14 Jennifer July 15, 2013 at 6:42 pm

I LOVED Gilmore Girls, especially Sookie! :)

15 Nessa July 15, 2013 at 6:42 pm

Yum! Love the tru blood in it ;)

16 Jennifer July 16, 2013 at 9:37 am

Thanks, Nessa! :)

17 The Partiologist July 16, 2013 at 9:36 am

Would you believe I’ve never watched an episode? But I’ll be hooked on the Tru Blood Lemonade – that’s for sure!

18 Jennifer July 16, 2013 at 9:37 am

Oh, it is great fun, Kim! Not exactly intellectual TV per se, but super entertaining :)

19 Angie | Big Bear's Wife July 16, 2013 at 11:26 am

True Blood is a totally guilty pleasure in this house! Let’s head down to Bon Temps and share these with those vamps or fairies or both! haha

20 Jennifer July 16, 2013 at 1:52 pm

I’m in, Angie! Sounds perfect to me :)

21 Kammie @ Sensual Appeal July 16, 2013 at 6:33 pm

YES YES YES to True Blood. Man, this season is FINALLY getting soooo good! Ahhh! Happy to meet another fan :) Love the Tru Blood lemonade ;) I’d take a sip for sure.

22 Jennifer July 16, 2013 at 7:54 pm

Thanks, Kammie! Sunday’s episode was definitely a game-changer! :)

23 Reeni July 16, 2013 at 8:16 pm

I could go for a double right now! We’re having a heatwave and these look so refreshing! Love pomegranate! I watched the first season and had no desire to watch the second – I like the books a lot better but I like how you tied it in.

24 Jennifer July 16, 2013 at 8:30 pm

My husband likes the books…he might not want the internet to know that… ;) He says they are quite different from the show!

25 Dorothy @ Crazy for Crust July 17, 2013 at 9:51 am

I need to get the rest of the seasons of True Blood. I loved the first 2!

26 Jennifer July 17, 2013 at 9:56 am

You can have a True Blood marathon! :)

27 Elizabeth July 17, 2013 at 12:48 pm

Lemonade is pretty much my favorite drink of all time, and I love it with pomegranate seeds! Pomegranate juice sounds even better, though, plus the fact that it’s sparkling? Must try!!

28 Jennifer July 17, 2013 at 12:54 pm

I TOTALLY should have added pomegranate seeds! :)

29 Georgia @ The Comfort of Cooking July 17, 2013 at 1:05 pm

Slllurrrrpppp! I want one of these, like, yesterday!

30 Jennifer July 17, 2013 at 1:19 pm

Haha, thanks, Georgia! :)

31 Wendy July 17, 2013 at 1:05 pm

This looks so refreshing! I would prefer to think of it as sparkling pomegranate lemonade. Blood in my lemonade (though perfect for your intended vampire beverage) makes me queasy. :) I am not usually a vampire/witch fan, but I have enjoyed (summer light chick lit reading) the first two books of a trilogy by Deborah Harkness; A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night. If you haven’t read them, you might enjoy them. :)

32 Jennifer July 18, 2013 at 7:46 am

It is so funny that you mention A Discover of Witches – I had gotten it from the library a couple months ago but didn’t start it in time and had to return it without reading it! Now that you’ve mentioned them too, I totally have to get it again!

33 Pamela @ Brooklyn Farm Girl July 17, 2013 at 1:12 pm

This looks so refreshing right about now, I need this for the heated afternoon we’re about to have here!

34 Jennifer July 17, 2013 at 1:19 pm

Oh, I know, Pamela! It has been so hot here…I need cool, refreshing beverages in my life! :)

35 Kayle (The Cooking Actress) July 17, 2013 at 8:24 pm

hooooorayyyy True Blood!!

I’m kinda starting to like Warlow in spite of myself…is that weird?

36 Jennifer July 18, 2013 at 7:44 am

Me too! He is growing on me, even though he was supposed to be the “villain” this season!

37 Hayley @ The Domestic Rebel July 19, 2013 at 9:49 am

This is the tastiest, most refreshing blood I’ve ever seen! You’re going to make me a lemonade vampire :)

38 Jennifer July 19, 2013 at 11:11 am

Maybe they are more suitable for Halloween ;)

39 Lora July 25, 2013 at 2:06 pm

I have some catching up to do with True Blood. I am an entire season behind but yes, am a bit obsessed too. Adding pomegranate flavor to anything immediately has my attention. Great idea with lemonade.

40 Jennifer July 25, 2013 at 3:03 pm

This current season is definitely picking up now! Something to look forward to :)
