Ok, Mother Nature (can I call you “MN”?). I get it. It’s summer. Which means that it is supposed to be hot. Really, I understand. But, does it have to be this hot? Melt the make-up off your face hot? Spontaneously combust hot?

Here’s the thing, MN. I’m pregnant. 22 weeks to be exact. Being a mother yourself, I’m sure you can relate. And, can I be honest for a minute? It means that I can’t handle the heat. I just can’t do it.

So, I’m begging you, on behalf of whiny pregnant ladies everywhere, can you just cut us some slack for the next few months?

I don’t think she’s listening…

But, thankfully, there are other ways to cope with the heat…like ice cream! I’m pairing up with Unilever to share some of their amazing ice cream options to help you beat the heat this summer. My husband and I had a blast picking out a whole bunch of different flavors.

Up first - Magnum Ice Cream!

I’ve never had a Magnum bar. Ever. So, I wasn’t even sure which flavor to get! My husband insisted that we get the Magnum Gold ice cream bars because “Alcide [Joe Manganiello from True Blood] likes it,” referencing the funny commercial. If that’s not a reason to buy it, I don’t know what is!

These bars are so rich and delicious…kind of like Joe Manganiello. Please note that that is my opinion, and NOT my husband’s. He loved these bars too, but doesn’t find Joe Manganiello delicious…weirdo. They are perfect for a special treat!

Next - Popsicle (Sour Patch Kids Popsicles)

Of all of the flavors of Popsicle brand frozen treats to choose from, this one was a no-brainer. I mean, hello, SPK! I love a sour/sweet combo and it worked perfectly with these popsicles! It was hard to eat just one.

Ok, I ate more than one…more like five…not in one sitting though! That makes all the difference. 5 popsicles spread throughout an entire day? Kind of acceptable. 5 popsicles at once? Maybe not.

And now - Fruttare (Strawberry and Milk flavor)

Full disclosure – I’ve tried Fruttare bars before, specifically the Banana and milk (I’ve been craving banana everything this pregnancy!). It was like creamy, banana-y, heaven on a stick. So, I was excited to try another flavor – specifically the Strawberry and Milk!

And, it did not disappoint! They are so creamy and full of strawberry goodness. I do prefer the Banana and Milk flavor, but that is probably all thanks to pregnancy hormones. Really, I don’t think you could go wrong with any flavor!

And - Klondike (Choco Tacos!)

I’ve never had a Choco Taco…truth. I felt like I had been missing out, so out of all of the delicious options, I had to spring for this fun treat.

It was the first box emptied out of all of the ice cream treats we tried! Somehow the waffle cone-esque “taco” shell stays delightfully crunchy, making it a veritable delight of textures. They are dangerous – as soon as I ate one, I wanted another!

Next - Breyers (Strawberry Waffle Cone)

There were a million different Breyers ice cream flavors to choose from, but the Strawberry Waffle Cone was calling my name.

Seriously, it was SO good. The strawberry ice cream was delicious and the chocolate covered waffle cones pieces were awesome! Sometimes, for me, chocolate pieces in ice cream can feel too hard as you’re eating, but these were perfect.

And, finally - Good Humor (Reese’s Ice Cream Cup)

As a total Reese’s lover, this was a must for me!

In addition to the chocolate coating and peanut butter ice cream, there was a Reese’s peanut butter swirl – the best part! And, let me tell you, they are generous with the swirling. My swirls were more like huge, amazing chunks of peanut buttery goodness. But, you don’t hear me complaining!

The Klondike Choco Tacos look beyond good. I know they would not last long in my house. The chocolate and the crunch of the shell and the ice cream is a great combination. I have not had them before but have always wanted to try them.

Helllloooo!!!! What an awesome blog post! This task would make my family SO happy! Instead I am dumping all this healthy stuff in the ice cream maker trying to convince them how delicious it is! I want a Magnum Bar. When they first came out we kept looking for them and they were sold out. I have yet to try them…but everything looks yummy!

I think the strawberry waffle cone sounds interesting, but I’ve also never tried the Choco Taco, so that would work for me too. Also, any ice cream that Joe Manganiello wants to show up with at my front door would be awesome!!

I’d love to try Good Humor’s Reese’s Ice Cream Cup because, well, it’s the only one I haven’t! A wee bit embarrassed here, but just a very wee bit. Ever since I was a little girl, when one or two times a summer my parents would indulge my six sisters and me with treats from the Good Humor truck that patrolled our suburban St. Louis neighborhood, I dedicate my summers to trying new kinds of ice cream. My son has heartily embraced the tradition as has my husband—except when his amazing self-restraint kicks in. How I’ve missed this luscious-looking treat, I cannot fathom!

Reply

24 Jennifer July 18, 2013 at 11:55 am

I grew up in the middle of nowhere, so ice cream trucks were never a part of my childhood. But, one stops by my little neighborhood now and, even though I never get any, it makes me so happy to hear the music of the truck coming down the road :)

Reply

47 Jennifer July 18, 2013 at 12:59 pm

They are very reasonable in the calorie department! The fruit and milk bars are a little higher in calories (140ish, I believe), and the regular fruit bars are around 60-70 calories each!

When my brothers and I were younger we were all sour candy fiends (sour gummy worms, Sour Patch Kids, Sour Skittles, etc); it would be great to have a new sour treat to share with them and relive some childhood nostalgia when we all get together again.

I would love to try the Good Humor (Reese’s Ice Cream Cup). I love regular Reese’s PB cups and I love ice cream. I think they would be a great combination!

I would like to try the Magnum bars because that is the only one I haven’t tried and the picture of the package looks SOOOO delicious and rich. Breyer’s strawberry ice cream is also a favorite.

I want to try the Fruttare – not usually a big fan of fruit in any other form than fresh, but your recommendation sold me – even though I’m NOT pregnant.

Wow. It’s a toss up between the Magnum which I used to eat regularly when I lived in Germany and the Good Humor which reminds me of the good humor man pushing his bike cart down the street of my childhood summers. I’ll go with the latter.

I’d like to try the Fruttare Strawberry and Milk flavor because something fruity, light, and creamy sounds good to me. Some frozen treats are too rich and heavy for me when the weather is so warm.

I would LOVE to try the Reese’s Ice Cream Cup! Oh my gosh it looks delicious! What better combo is there than peanut butter and chocolate? Reese’s have always been a childhood favorite of mine, so I know I would devour their ice cream cup in .5 seconds lol! :)

I’d love to have the Good Humor’s Reese’s Ice Cream Cup, because my sister L-O-V-E-S Reese’s. And I love my sister. So I would hope she would appreciate me bribing her love with peanut butter and chocolate.
