My Favorite Things is a series of blog posts highlighting things that I’m in love with right now. I hope you like them too!

August Favorite Things collage

1. Divergent by Veronica Roth: So, I finally jumped on the Divergent bandwagon. I’ve actually had the book since January, but didn’t read it until last week. I’m not sure why. My husband actually read it first and enjoyed it very much, so that was probably the deciding factor. It is a great book (soon to be a movie). I’m on the second book now!

2. Cloth Diapers. I had been interested in cloth diapering our little lady for a while, but was a bit scared of the commitiment. Will it be too hard? Will the washing be too much to handle? But, the monetary savings won out (I calculated it several times!), and we got our diaper stash a couple days ago. And, in a totally creepy way, I’m in LOVE with them. They are so stinkin’ cute! Let’s just hope they work for their intended purpose!

3. Zoku Classic Pop Mold. Zoku makes all kinds of cool pop molds, including quick pop makers that can make yummy popsicles in less than 10 minutes! But, I just wanted a regular mold and figured that I couldn’t go wrong with Zoku…and I was right! I have a super yummy popsicle recipe coming up (it may involve Biscoff…) and these worked perfectly!

4. VitaFusion Prenatal Gummy Vitamins. When I first found out I was pregnant, I started taking a monstrous prenatal horse pill. I mean, these suckers were huge! But, it was for the baby, and I figured I would get used to it. But then, I started to have digestive issues. Like, super annoying/horrible ones. Turns out, my prenatal horse pills had way more iron than my body could handle and it was wreaking havoc on my digestive system! Now, some women need the extra iron during pregnancy, but I’m not one of them (according to my blood tests, which have always been great). So, I started taking these gummy vitamins on the recommendation of my doctor and they have been fabulous! SO easy to take. Best of all? No iron = no tummy troubles!

5. Fall. I’m well aware that it is not fall yet – the 90 degree heat reminds me of the fact every day! But, I’m SO looking forward to it! I need to be able to go outside without my make-up sweating off. I want to wear a sweater. I want to see the leaves change. I want it all! Hurry up, fall, I need you!

6. City of Bones Movie. GAH. So excited for this one! The City of Bones movie comes out next week and I can’t wait! I’m worried that they might screw it up, but I’m very curious to see how it will all come together…cinematically! I might even have some treats coming next week in honor of the premiere…stay tuned!

What are you loving right now?

and omg…girl…I know what you’re saying. I once took vitamins with iron and it was one of the most…unpleasant….experiences ever. Ugh

I read Divergent last year and it wasn’t until I finished the 2nd book that I found out the 3rd doesn’t come out this this year. I was so pissed! Haha… I think I am going to re-read them to refresh my brain before the 3rd comes out.

Have you read the Matched series? It’s also very good!
I haven’t read City of Bones. I think I will add it to my to-read list!

Oh, I’ve done that too! I powdered through a couple series only to learn that the last book wouldn’t be out anytime soon! (like the Mara Dyer books, and the last book of The Mortal Instruments series). I’ve heard Matched is good – it is on my list! :)

Those iron pill are the worst! I had the same problem.

Good luck with the cloth diapers. I hope it goes well.

Thanks, Lisa! I’ve been researching like crazy, so I think it’ll be fine – I’m so excited to start using them! I’m counting the days until November! :)

Jennifer, babies are extremely exciting, nothing at all about diapers ( of any variety) could be called exciting. :) :)

Haha – I’m sure I will feel that way in a couple months, Wendy! ;)

My 21-yr-old daughter & I loved “Divergent” too. It’ll be interesting to see how the movie turns out. (Still need to read the 3rd book.)

If you like YA books, one I recommend is “Starters” by Lissa Price. So many of the YA series are trilogies, while this one is a rare duology. The 2nd book “Enders” will be out Jan 7, 2014. I had heard an interview with the author and it was interesting how she came up with the premise. All because she was in line, I think at Costco, waiting to get a flu shot.

Huh, I’ve never heard of “Starters” – I’m totally intrigued! I’ll definitely check it out :)

Divergent = awesome! Can’t wait for the 3rd book! :)

I hope you will review the cloth diapers once you start using them for a bit. I’m curious to know how well they do when I have a baby.

OMG, I am dying to see City of Bones!!!! I cannot wait! I think it’s going to be awesome. Woo hoo, looking forward to seeing what kind of treats you came up with! :)

Hi Stacey! I didn’t think about doing a cloth diaper review, but I’d be happy to share my experiences, for sure! I know that I read tons of blogger reviews and it helped me considerably :)

I hope the movie is awesome too! Stay tuned for COB treats all next week :)

4 out of 6…
Books – Loved em!
Vitmins – I thought I would die before I started taking the gummy ones!
Fall – I’m melting over here.
and CoB – The book was just ehh for me, and everyone knows that the book is usually better than the movie, so I’m still a bit undecided. You’ll have to let us know what you think.

I’ll definitely let you know about the movie, Toni! I think that I enjoyed the book more than some others I know (a friend of mine read it and didn’t enjoy it as much). But, I know lots of people enjoyed The Infernal Devices books more than The Mortal Instruments (same “world,” different time period, different characters). So, you might want to try it and see if you like it more than The Mortal Instruments :)

I actually read those first and liked them so much more that I didn’t continue the Mortal Instruments Series past book 1. I may just have a weakness for historical settings though. ;-)

Haha – I hear you! My husband has only read The Infernal Devices and liked them quite a bit…he hasn’t expressed any interest in the Mortal Instruments ;)

Good luck with the cloth diapers. I know some people who tried and then gave up, but hopefully you can make it work. I am obsessed with gummy vitamins. I take calcium/vitamin D and omega 3 ones, and often wish they were candy.

Oh, awesome, I may absolutely take you up on that, Monet – I don’t know anyone else who cloth diapers, so it will be great to have someone to talk to who knows what they are doing! :)

Oooh, what a great ‘loving it’ post, Jennifer. You have me intrigued with your upcoming projects (Biscoff and boney good things to come) and cracking up over your attachment to those cloth diapers. Yes…those iron supplements can wreak havoc with your innards! Ugh. Glad you found some prenatal supplements that work for a healthy you and baby. Yes…bring on fall! My fave time of year. I can feel it coming…soon. Have a great summer weekend, girl! xo

I didn’t either, Sarah! Not until I started searching myself :) I’d heard so many fabulous things from other bloggers about the quick pop maker, I figured that the regular molds wouldn’t disappoint!

OH Jennifer, that’s what I call it, I don’t know what it’s real name is!! LOL It’s a cup where you fill with a drink and it turns it into a slush! I got it at Williams Sonoma!

I finished Divergent at about 4:30 am, this morning. So much on my mind after dropping my baby off at college/volleyball preseason that I needed to get my mind somewhere else (she’s a junior, so it’s me, not her!!!) . I really enjoyed book one, and book 2 is downloaded and waiting for me to say good bye to my son who leaves for his last semester of college today….my empty nest will be the perfect place to get through the next one! Really enjoying it!

I love the Divergent series- I cant wait for the third one and the movie, even though they won’t be out for a while. Good luck with cloth diapers! I don’t think I could ever do that… I hate diapers and everything that comes with them. I can’t wait for fall fashion but I”m not a fan of the weather. But I am excited for my roommate’s and my near weekly Starbucks trips for pumpkin spice lattes!

I’m so behind on my young adult popular fiction. I really wanted to read City of Bones before the movie came out, but I procrastinated. I think you’ve motivated me to get to reading again!

I love reading books in a series. That way when you get attached to a character, you don’t have to say good-bye right away. But waiting for the next installment stinks! I am always glad when I am last on the bandwagon and several in a series are already in print! I will add Divergent to my reading list. Gummy vitamins are the best! I hate taking pills and giant horse pill just don’t work with me. If it can’t be chewed or mixed into a drink, I don’t take it! (much to my dr’s frustration). Glad you found something that works for you. There are enough woes to pregnancy, vitamins shouldn’t cause additional ones! Can’t wait for the biscoff pops!!

Hi,

I am a frequent reader of your blog, love the different style of treats you do…
But to the point – Cloth diapers. I used them for both my babies and it was great, easy and eco friendly. (I am pretty sure it also helps later with potty training, but that’s a well kept secret). I also used them for all nights from day 1 at home.
Yet it is a choice little more time consumming, but really worth it!
Enjoy the baby’s arrival,
Elena

So you’re having a girl!?! How did I miss that announcement? Or did I already know and my age is showing, haha! Very exciting, Jennfer:) BTW, My daughter LOVES using cloth diapers. They have such darling fabrics too!

Reply

50 Jennifer August 27, 2013 at 9:15 am

Yup, it’s a girl! I’ve had THREE ultrasounds that have confirmed it (16 weeks, 20 weeks, 24 weeks). I announced it at the end of my gender sweetstakes :) My husband would have been happy with either, but he is SO excited for a girl! He has already expressed his worries about her DATING and such. I’m like, “Let’s get through potty training (and the birth!) before we start worrying about that!” ;)
