Not sure what to watch this fall? I’m here to help! Here are my picks for best new fall shows, with premiere dates and trailers for your viewing pleasure.
Hostages
Premieres Monday, September 23rd on CBS
I’m intrigued by this tense trailer. I love me some Toni Colette and Dylan McDermott (am I the only one who remembers him in The Practice? Loved him then, love him now!). He can play an awesome bad guy – just look at American Horror Story: Asylum.
Super Fun Night
Premieres Wednesday, October 2nd on ABC
Rebel Wilson. Enough said. I’m banking on this new comedy, despite the lackluster trailer.
The Goldbergs
Premieres Tuesday, September 24th on ABC
One of the funnier trailers this season, and I can’t resist the 80′s nostalgia!
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Premieres Tuesday, September 24th on ABC
I have to admit – my husband is insisting on this one, but I’m willing to give it a shot. Plus, when Joss Whedon is involved, it deserves serious consideration for a place on your DVR!
Dracula
Premieres Friday, October 25th on NBC
What do Jonathan Rhys Meyers and the producers of “Downton Abbey” have in common? This show! Despite the tired topic of vampires (aren’t we ready to fixate on some other supernatural creature now?), anything remotely involved with DA will get a chance from me. I’m hoping they can truly capture the gothic setting!
Sleepy Hollow
Premiered last night, September 16 on Fox
Robert and I watched the first episode of this show last night and we were definitely intrigued enough to continue. I’m enjoying the interaction of the characters, the writing seems solid, and the story is a nice twist on the old Headless Horseman myth.
The Originals
Premieres Thursday, October 3rd on the CW
As a fan of The Vampire Diaries, I’m interested in seeing how this spin-off fares. I think it could be very interesting – the happenings in Mystic Falls weren’t as engaging to me last season, so maybe some time with the Originals will get me interested again!
The Blacklist
Premieres Monday, September 23rd on NBC
This show has been touted as a crime drama with a Silence of the Lambs feel to it. Count me in – especially with James Spader (another alum of The Practice). The critics are buzzing about this one, so I think it is a sure-fire hit!
Mom
Premieres Monday, September 23rd on CBS
This one has so much potential. Poor Anna Faris always seems to get cast as the dumb girl (ala House Bunny or the Scary Movie franchise), but I think the girl’s got some real comedic chops, so I’m excited to see her in something a little different. Plus, you can’t go wrong with Allison Janey!
Masters of Sex
Premieres Sunday, September 29th on Showtime (mature themes in trailer…duh)
Is it weird to include a show that I actually won’t be watching? Hubby and I don’t get Showtime, so this one is not the in cards for us. But, I took a human sexuality class in college (one of the best electives ever!), and I think the work of sexual research, especially in those early years, is super fascinating. This one looks like a winner to me!
Excellent Top 10 List of Fall Shows, Jennifer! My inner goth is enamored with Dracula and Sleepy Hollow. And, anything with Toni Colette has my vote! Thanks for sharing, girl!
I’m gonna be watching Agents of SHIELD (not usually my kinda thing but…Whedon.), Dracula (I WILL NEVER BE TIRED OF VAMPIRES….or Jonathan Rhys Meyers ) and The Originals (bc I must know every part of the universe of any show I watch, and I’m sure the storylines will intersect at times)
I usually never watch anything that’s on at the same time as actual airing, except Mad Men or Game of Thrones. Sleepy Hollow looks great though! Right now I’m finishing up Season 5 of Sopranos, don’t tell me what happens!
Ha! Now I don’t have to read that big, fat issue of Entertainment Weekly! But I will, there are plenty I am looking forward to….and books….and movies! Bye Bye reruns!
I’ve been looking for new shows to watch (while procrastinating homework), so I love this list! I’ll definitely be checking out Sleepy Hollow and Agents of SHEILD.
I am awed by the amount of work you put into this roundup. Summaries, opinions, and video clips. Wow. I am not much of a tv watcher but a few of these have me interested! Thanks!
I’m so excited about Sleepy Hollow, Super Fun Night, Agents of SHIELD, Mom, and The Originals. I hadn’t heard about The Goldbergs (or possibly looked over it), so I’m adding that to my list. I’m not sure about Dracula yet, but I want to give it a shot.
Yay! With a new baby at home, we don’t get out much. We need some new TV shows to keep us occupied during late night feedings. These are all going on my must-watch list now!
I am excited for several new shows this season. I am really excited about Hostages. I am glad this year’s lineup has several good shows to choose from. Thanks for the awesome list!!
Great round-up! I love Rebel Wilson and Toni Colette! I watched Sleepy Hollow too – I liked it but kind of hoped it would be better. This is the first I heard of Dracula – definitely tuning into that and the 80′s comedy.
Just wanted to thank you for putting these all in a post!! I’ve seen bits and pieces on commercials lately, but who has the foresight to grab a pen and jot down dates and times? Well, not me anyway!! Now I’ve got the notes, so thanks again!!

I’ve never seen The Sopranos, but I know I NEED to!
Great list! I already have Marvel’s Agents and The Blacklist on my new shows to check out list!
They both look awesome!

You would think that I would have a subscription to EW magazine
Yes, you would love this magazine….
Great list, Jennifer! I’m rooting for Rebel Wilson too. I love her in movies and would love to see her more regularly on a successful TV show.
Totally agree!

Thanks, Wendy!
I’m weird – I do this every year and try to decide what is worth watching. I figure I might as well share
I’m definitely going to check some of these shows out!!! I’m in need of some new ones now that Dexter and Breaking Bad are ending.
I don’t watch Dexter, but I’m so sad that Breaking Bad is ending!!

Yeah, I’m really hoping that Dracula is good!
Hi Jennifer,
I need to look into some of these shows, I don’t watch much TV but I think I’m going to see what the Hostages are around.
I have it on my DVR right now! Have to wait so hubby can watch it too
Such a great list, Jennifer! Hubby and I have been needing to get into some new shows now that lots of our favorites are over. Thanks!
Thanks, Georgia!

I agree about Sleepy Hollow, but we’ll stick with it and see how the season goes

I love your taste Jennifer! I’m most excited about Hostages. Dylan McDermott. Yum! LOL!
Totally agree, Melissa!
