Magical Frog Cookies

The well-meaning Elder Cunningham in the Book of Mormon musical tries his best to connect with the Ugandan people…and tells a few small lies along the way:

“Uh, behold! The Lord said to the Mormon prophet Joseph Smith:
I shall give unto you… a FROG! And thus,
Joesph laid with the frog, and his AIDS was no more!”

I’ll show you how to make your own AIDS-curing magical frog cookies!

Nabulungi’s Malva Pudding

I love Nabulungi. In the Book of Mormon, she is a young woman living in war-torn Uganda who dreams of a brighter future.

“Sal Tlay Ka Siti, the most perfect place on Earth
Where flies don’t bite your eyeballs and human life has worth
It isn’t a place of fairy tales, it’s as real as it can be
A land where evil doesn’t exist: Sal Tlay Ka Siti” (Salt Lake City for the non-fans!)

She represents hope and light in the face of evil and darkness.

All-American Prophet Apple Pie Cookies

Have you heard of the All-American prophet?
The blond-haired, blue-eyed voice of God!
He didn’t come from the Middle East, like those other holy men
No, God’s favorite prophet was All-American!

Unlike the sugar cookies I blogged about yesterday, these are super easy. I wanted to create a fun dessert for the All-American prophet, and what’s more All-American than apple pie! Except, pies are hard – I wanted something easier. So, how about mini apple pies/cookies with a very patriotic chocolate drizzle? I followed Bakerella’s directions for apple pie pops, without the pesky pop part. Feel free to make any of the ingredients from scratch, if you like.

Dancing Mormon Cookies

“We love to dance and shout
and let all the feelings out,
and work to make a better Latter day.”

Apparently, Mormons like to dance.

This Theme Will Change Your Life: Book of Mormon Musical

Image from Bookofmormonbroadway.com

Can you say that you love a musical that you’ve never seen? I think you can. If I love the soundtrack, I think that I would love the show – the soundtrack is the heart of a musical, after all! So, even though I’ve never actually seen it, I’m presenting awesome Book of Mormon treats for the next 2, count ‘em, TWO weeks! Even if you’re not a Book of Mormon fan, or have never heard of this incredible musical, you will still enjoy all of the yummy stuff coming up.

And, if you want a little dose of the show, I present the uber-adorable Andrew Rannells preforming at the Tony Awards last year (there is a bleeped curse word – you are warned, the faint of heart):

What can I say? I’m a sucker for a politically incorrect musical.

Chocolate Bacon Bark with Peanuts and Apricots

Every Christmas, my family expects an awesome assortment of cookies from me. I guess I should expect it, since I am the baker of the family. Peppermint bark is always requested. I would probably be disowned if it wasn’t included in each cookie tin. I don’t understand it – it is as simple as it gets – melt chocolate, add peppermint candy, refrigerate. But, everyone goes nuts for it and acts as though you have presented them with mana from heaven. I think they would like this bark too. Maybe it will make an appearance in the holiday tins this year!

Chocolate Bacon Cupcakes with Nutella Buttercream

In my last blog post, I talked about simplicity. However, in this case, the more awesome stuff I could cram into this cupcake, the better! Chocolate? Check. Bacon? Check. NUTELLA? Check, check, check! So, you should check it out! (Did you see what I did there? Hardy har-har!)

Spicy Candied Bacon

Sometimes, simple is best. My instinct is always “Do more, add more,” but I have to remind myself that this thinking doesn’t always produce the best results. You can make a recipe with only 4 ingredients that tastes amazing. This recipe is proof!

Bacon Cookies

I love decorating cookies (obviously). But, sometimes the thought of making dough, rolling it out, using cutters, baking cookies, cooling cookies, making royal icing, dying the icing, preparing the bags, and finally decorating the cookies exhausts me. I wonder why? So, I love making cookies that look awesome and don’t require icing or pastry bags. I found a fabulous tutorial on bacon cookies, though I wanted to add a NoYoMoCo spin. Bacon isn’t bacon without that wavy shape…but how to achieve it? Luckily, Sugarbelle, the cookie queen, used a technique to make fun tortilla chip cookies. So, I combined these techniques, threw in some sugar “pepper,” and voila – it’s bacon! (I may use this phrase several times throughout this blog post…sorry).
