Peggy’s Firecracker Cookies

I’ve saved the best for last. Peggy is my favorite female character on Mad Men. People make assumptions about Peggy based on her appearance. She looks sweet and innocent (and dresses the part). But, don’t mess with this chica. She’s ambitious, smart, and finding her feet in a male-dominated world.

Joan’s Heart Thumbprint Cookies

“I like redheads. Their mouths are like a drop of strawberry jam in a glass of milk.” – Roger Sterling (about Joan)

I love that quote. I think the writers give Roger all of the best mildly inappropriate one-liners. Like, “when God closes a door, he opens a dress.” Oh Roger.

Apple Brown Betty Draper

“Only boring people are bored” – Betty Francis/Draper

Perhaps the most polarizing character on Mad Men, Betty is hard to like. She is a distant, sometimes abusive, mother, a childish spouse, and a generally unpleasant person. She is also delicate and troubled. And beautiful.

Irish Week: Honey Caramel Cupcakes with Goat Cheese Frosting

Between lack of sleep and jet lag, our first day in Ireland was hazy. I know we had tea, ate cheddar and peanut butter crackers because all of the restaurants were closed for a funeral (apparently the former owner of our hotel – which used to be an estate – had passed away), took some pictures, and crashed as late as our eyes would let us.

But, the next day, I could finally drink it all in. Starting with breakfast. And, Robert and I quickly discovered that while Irish cuisine isn’t the most innovative, there is one thing they’ve got down pat…

Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding

***Don’t forget to enter my Sweetstakes to win a $25 Amazon gift card! The giveaway ends March 9th.***

I feel like I’ve seen a lot of bread pudding recipes lately and it got me in the mood to make one myself. I’ve never made one before and I’ve had some not so great versions, so I was a little hesitant. But, when I found a recipe that called for these:

Heavenly Hot Chocolate

We’re having a very mild winter this year, much to my chagrin. As a native Virginian, I love cold, snowy winters as a reprieve from the humid and sticky summers. And, snow meant a guranteed snow day as a kid…and who doesn’t love a snow day? So, when this happened a couple weeks ago:

Brilliant Lemon Budino

“Budino” is Italian for pudding. While this dessert is a far cry from traditional, American pudding, it is exquisite. The taste is wonderful, but the texture is the star! Thick like a custard, but it melts in your mouth. Try it today!

Who Are You Calling a HoHo?

I debated posting this recipe. It has a million steps, it is not easy, and I’m not even thrilled with the way it came out (even though it tastes wonderful). But, sometimes it is all about how you measure your own success. I can be hard on myself when things don’t come out how I imagined, so this is good therapy for me, I think. To show that something can be a success and worth sharing even when it is not perfect. Plus, I didn’t want to waste a kind of awesome blog title.

Chocolate Chip Cookies Rule the World

These do, at least! I’ve been making these cookies (from Allrecipes) for years and they are, by far, my husband’s favorite. They are huge, chewy, and chocolaty – everything a chocolate chip cookie should be. They are also super easy to make. You don’t even have to soften any butter (which I irrationally hate to do).
